Trump: Zelensky never wanted peace, Ukraine lost its seas

Zelenskyy doesn’t care, and frankly, with all of the money that Europe is famously giving him, and that Crooked Joe Biden gave him in the past, he doesn’t want to end this war, and probably never did. He could have made a better deal two years ago than he can now. His country is in shambles, a large portion of his land is lost, his oceans and seas are gone, and his male population is low, wounded, and/or dead.

Analysis: In a Truth Social post on October 18, 2026, President Trump made several claims that are contradicted by established facts. The most striking is the assertion that Ukraine’s ‘oceans and seas are gone.’ Ukraine is a sovereign nation with a coastline on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov. While Russia has occupied coastal territories, including Crimea (annexed in 2014) and parts of the southern Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, the seas themselves have not ‘gone.’ This is a geographical impossibility and a clear example of rhetorical exaggeration detached from reality.

The claim that Zelensky ‘doesn’t want to end this war, and probably never did’ is also contradicted by the historical record. Ukraine has been the victim of Russia’s full-scale invasion since February 24, 2022. Zelensky has repeatedly called for peace, proposed peace formulas, and engaged in negotiations, including the Istanbul talks in March 2022, which were abandoned after Russia’s withdrawal from the agreement. The assertion that Zelensky could have made a ‘better deal two years ago’ (i.e., in 2024) is speculative and ignores that Russia’s war aims have been to subjugate Ukraine, not to negotiate a fair settlement.

Trump’s statement that Russia is ‘doing very little, if anything’ to help Iran is also questionable. Reports from NBC News, cited in the events, indicate Russia is sending explosives, drone components, and ammunition to Iran via the Caspian Sea. This contradicts Trump’s claim that Russia has done ‘nothing’ for Iran.

The post also reveals a fundamental inconsistency: Trump claims to be making ‘great progress’ in peace negotiations while simultaneously accusing the Ukrainian president of being the sole obstacle to peace. If Zelensky never wanted peace, as Trump claims, then the ‘great progress’ in negotiations would be impossible. This logical contradiction undermines the credibility of the entire statement.
