Trump Orders Federal Agencies to Rename AI to ‘Super Intelligence’

President Donald Trump has officially ordered all United States federal agencies to cease using the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’ and instead refer to the technology as ‘Super Intelligence’ (SI). The directive, which surfaced during his recent appearances at the UN General Assembly, marks a significant shift in administrative nomenclature.

Analysis: This move falls under the category of absurdity and grotesqueness. By attempting to unilaterally redefine a globally recognized technical term through executive fiat, the President is prioritizing branding over established scientific and industrial terminology. The change appears to be an attempt to reframe the perception of AI—a field currently facing intense debate regarding safety and regulation—into something that sounds more authoritative and controlled. Linguistically, the term ‘Super Intelligence’ is often used in academic circles to describe a hypothetical future state of AI that surpasses human cognitive abilities, rather than the current state of machine learning models. Applying this label to existing, limited technologies is a clear case of semantic inflation, detached from the technical reality of the software currently in use.
