Trump Claims Syria Would Better Manage Hezbollah Than Israel

President Donald Trump stated: ‘I suggested to Israel to let Syria take care of Hezbollah; I think they would do a better job.’

Analysis: This statement is characterized by its geopolitical absurdity and detachment from regional realities. Suggesting that the Syrian government—a regime currently struggling to maintain control over its own territory and historically aligned with Iran—could or would ‘take care’ of Hezbollah is logically inconsistent. Hezbollah is a key component of the ‘Axis of Resistance’ that has historically supported the Assad regime in Syria. Furthermore, the Syrian government has no operational capacity or political incentive to dismantle a group that serves as its primary proxy and security partner in Lebanon. Trump’s claim ignores the deep-seated military and ideological ties between Damascus and Hezbollah, effectively proposing that a client should police its own benefactor.
