While donning a MAGA hat emblazoned with the text ‘Trump 2028’, he stated: ‘I am pleased to announce my intention to run for a fourth term as President of the United States. I will be doing that. I won three times, now I am going to do it again.’
Analysis: This statement is factually absurd and legally impossible under the United States Constitution. The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, explicitly states that ‘No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.’ Having been elected in 2016 and 2024, Trump is constitutionally barred from seeking a third term, let alone a fourth. Furthermore, the claim that he has ‘won three times’ is a departure from the historical record of the 2016 and 2024 elections. Whether intended as a rhetorical flourish, a joke, or a deliberate challenge to constitutional norms, the statement stands in direct contradiction to established American law.
